BATTLE CREEK,MI ( WTVB) – Battle Creek fire crews with assistance from LifeCare Ambulance and the and Battle Creek Police responded to a structure fire on N. Mason Avenue shortly after 4 p.m. on Tuesday.
Crews arrived to find a working fire originating from the basement of a single-story, wood-framed structure. Firefighters conducted a primary search of the first floor, locating and removing several cats. Unfortunately, only one cat survived.
The fire was placed under control in roughly 30 minutes. Firefighting efforts were hampered by high winds and severe fire damage to structural members and the contents within the structure.
No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is under investigation. Damage was estimated at around $100,ooo.
