COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Another step towards the construction on the first phase of the Western Meadows project took place Monday night as the Coldwater Planning Commission approved the preliminary site plan for the first ten lots of the development.
The first of three phases will feature single family residential homes that will be priced at between $350,000 and $400,000. Eventually, plans call for between 30 and 35 units to be built in the area of Western Avenue and State Street.
The Coldwater City Council approved a purchase agreement in March to award five lots to Allen Edwin Homes of Portage and five lots to Alliance Home Builders of Coldwater for $20,000 per lot of the city owned property.
Before that, the City Council approved a bid of just over $492,000 from Parrish Excavating of Quincy in May of 2024 for the construction of first phase.
The City of Coldwater bought about 14 1/2 acres on Western Avenue in October 2016 from Robert Rumsey for $95,819 with plans to use the land for future housing development.

No way should this get the tax plan the city is offering. They will capture all of their property tax money and use it as they wish while the rest of the taxpayers pay for all of their city services like police, fire, snow removal etc. This is the same plan that the new sub that Councilman Knack and Commissioner Houtz live in got. It. just crooked to make the lowest of income pay for the highes of incomes services!
