GIRARD TOWNSHIP, MI (WTVB) – Branch County residents opposed to ITC’s Helix-Hiple transmission line that would run 55 miles from the Michigan-Indiana border in Gilead Township north through Branch County to the Helix Substation in Calhoun County can get assistance in submitting public comments to the Michigan Public Service Commission (MPSC) this week.
A community meeting will take place Thursday, June 19 in the Girard Township Hall at 6:00 p.m. Organizers says where residents from all across the county can get assistance in how to voice their opposition, either in writing or making a 1-2 minute video statements that will be submitted to the MPSC.
If the MPSC approves the project, the state’s eminent domain power would authorize property condemnation proceedings to acquire rights to use private land for the transmission line.
The MPSC is expected to make a decision this summer but in their last meeting declined to make a ruling, instead opting to seek more information.
The Girard Township Hall is located at 1009 Marshall Road north of Coldwater.
