COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The City of Coldwater’s Historic District Commission approved a Certificate of Appropriateness request from the Children’s Museum of Branch County Wednesday afternoon for a sunflower fixture on the 125-year-old building.
The sunflower would be above the ground floor of the downtown building at the corner of North Hanchett and West Chicago Street.

The proposed fixture would be mounted to the building using anchoring bolts secured into the brick façade and would be suspended above the existing awning.
The Coldwater Downtown Development Authority Board approved the design of a mural of flowers as well as the final design of the sunflower during their June 25 meeting.
The concept of the 21-foot sunflower was approved by the D.D.A. Board and the Historic District Commission in late 2023. It will be constructed at a cost of at least $70,000.
In other business, the H.D.C. approved the installation of an exterior wall sign at Glo Studios. The sign at 67 West Chicago will feature channel lettering that will be back lit and mounted above the entrance of the building.
