COLDWATER, MI (WTVB)- During a town hall style meeting in Coldwater on Tuesday, one of the big topics of discussion was the potential for some rural hospitals being forced to shutter operations as a result of the recently passed Big Beautiful Bill and changes to Medicare and Medicaid.
5th District Congressman Tim Walberg says that if some hospitals are forced to close, it won’t be a direct result of the bill but instead due to years of bad decision making.
Congressman Walberg said the government will work with struggling hospitals and health care facilities on a plan that would allow them to continue to serve their communities .
Congress has appropriated funds to help hospitals deal with potential losses of Medicaid and Medicare dollars. The Congressman also said some hospitals won’t make it such as Coldwater’s ProMedica Hospital, who he says was mismanaged for years and eventually had to be sold in 2024.
