COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Monday marks the start of the fall high school sports season, with over 100,000 athletes expected to compete in nine Michigan High School Athletic Association sponsored sports over the next several months.
Practices and tryouts begin Monday for boys and girls cross country, field hockey, football, girls golf, boys soccer, girls swim and dive, boys tennis, and girls volleyball.
The fall season includes the most played sports for both boys and girls, with 36,210 football players and 19,679 girls volleyball players competing during the Fall 2024 season.
Competition can begin Friday, August 15 for cross country, field hockey, golf, soccer, and tennis, August 20 for swimming and diving and volleyball, and August 28 for football.
Field hockey is a new MHSAA tournament sport this year, while boys volleyball has been added for the spring.
