COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater City Council approved the location of a bandshell and amphitheater in Heritage Park Monday night that will honor the late local entertainer, businessman and artist Jim Stout.
Stout’s widow and two stepdaughters were given permission by the City Council last December to proceed with a design on a slope along North Shore Drive at Bishop Avenue. That location is near where the city currently holds the summer “Entertainment Under the Stars” concerts.
Stout’s family is hoping to raise $950,000 in private donations for the bandshell.

Stout’s widow Laurie told the Council the idea for the bandstand started three years ago shortly after her husband’s death.
She indicated everything is in place.
City Manager Keith Baker said Heritage Park was selected by the family due to existing parking and access as well as for existing restrooms and utilities.
He added the existing topography provides for a natural amphitheater layout and tiered seating.
Stout passed away in July of 2022 at the age of 71.

We can’t keep the public bathrooms from being vandalized but we are still wanting to spend a million dollars on an occasionally used building serving the wealthiest subdivision with free entertainment. Meanwhile, deaf shild signs are turned down due to costs.
