COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater Board of Public Utilities Board of Directors approved a new Short Message Service User Privacy Policy on Wednesday which governs the use of SMS for mobile devices and protects the privacy of users.
Community Engagement Coordinator Stephanie Burdick says this came about after feedback from a June 2023 Customer Satisfaction Survey indicated a more robust communication channel for customers was desired.
Burdick said after researching and talking with other municipal utilities, staff determined TextPower could provide the best solution.
She added that when the CBPU lost internet service for several days back in May, the utility was unable to send text alerts and notifications even though they were able to access the internet off-site.
The policy will be forwarded to the City Council for their approval.
In other business, there is an opening on the CBPU Board as John Wellett is stepping down after serving for six years. Wednesday was his last meeting and Board President Chris Stevens said Wellett had to resign after moving outside of the utility’s territory.
Someone will have to be appointed to serve out the balance of Wellet’s term which runs through May 2027.
