BRONSON, MI (WTVB) – The Bronson City Council passed a resolution on Monday as part of a process that could lead to a future downtown streetscape project.
City Manager Brandon Mersman said the city has been working with Toole Design, the Walkability Action Institute, and the Michigan Department of Transportation on the feasibility and early development of such a project which could include a road diet, sidewalk improvements, upgraded lighting, reconfiguration of on-street parking and other beautification features.
The resolution passed Monday night is part of MDOT’s requirements, to be considered for a future road diet conversion along U.S. 12.
Mersman pointed out adoption of the resolution does not commit the City to implementing a road diet but it does allow the project to be included in MDOT’s 2031 Call for Projects process.
He added if the project is selected, the City still has the ability to decide whether to move forward with the road diet as part of a potential streetscape project in the downtown area.
Mersman said in his report to the Council that funding is not yet certain but there is the possibility that all the costs could be covered by MDOT but this would not include repairs, improvements, or marking of the City’s on-street parking.
