UNION CITY, MI (WTVB) – Three educators who have made a long lasting impact on countless lives in Union City have Been named the village’s Citizens of the Year.
Stacy Guertler was born and raised in Union City and has dedicated her life to giving back to the community.
After graduating from Union City High School in 1988, she went on to pursue her education and returned to serve local families as a school counselor where she is in her 29th year. Her familiar face and strong community ties have helped generations of students feel comfortable and supported.
Guertler has also been involved in numerous community efforts outside the classroom including the Christmas Basket program, where she has helped coordinate gifts and support for families during the holidays.

Kyle Miller is known for his dedication to youth sports, education, and community service, Miller has left a mark on Union City through his steady leadership and quiet determination to make a difference.
Miller is a 2006 Union City graduate, has long been a driving force behind Union City’s BUCS youth baseball, softball, and soccer programs. Hosting kids from 3-14 years old, he has coordinated countless teams, secured fields for practice and play, and supported a strong network of volunteer coaches. Coordinating schedules, fundraising, and equipment.
Miller also contributes to the annual Christmas Basket program often delivering food baskets to local families sometimes late into the evening to make sure everyone in need is cared for. He is also a Middle School teacher.

Chris Katz is a 1980 graduate of Union City High School and a School employee for over 40 years and recently retired as superintendent. Katz was a multi-sport athlete who held the discus record for decades, and was deep in the trenches as a lineman for the Charger Football Team.
However, his greatest legacy would come years later through education and leadership. After starting as a teacher and coach, he became a trailblazer in technology for Union City, helping usher in Union City’s first computer labs in the mid-1980s. Later, as superintendent, Katz worked tirelessly to improve the culture, facilities, and long-term vision of Union City Schools. As Superintendent , Katz oversaw a project to rebuild the Alumni Field Bleachers in 2024, and then secured over $28 million in grants to revamp the entire school district facilities.

All three will receive their awards September 27 downtown Union City at the Farm To Fork Celebration.
