COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater Community Schools Board of Education took action on a couple of items concerning the Dr. Robert W. Browne Aquatic Center Monday night.
The Board approved the district’s contribution towards the cost of an energy analysis that will be done by a Grandville firm. Board Chair Dr. Ed Lake read the resolution which stated the district and the City of Coldwater will share the cost.
Superintendent Paul Flynn said the end goal is the status of the geothermal system which they believe has never worked correctly.
In addition, the board approved a recommendation from the Aquatic Source for the installation of a new mobile lift chair at a cost of just under $17,000 which would replace the current chair that is broken.
A five-year agreement with Coldwater Community Schools, the Browne Family, the City of Coldwater, and Branch County was worked out last year. The agreement stabilized the center’s finances following an operational deficit of over $300,000 per year prior to the new management.
An advisory committee with representatives from key stakeholders was also formed to oversee the center’s operations.
