COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – A Coldwater woman who allegedly struck and killed a bicyclist back in January was arrested over the weekend and arraigned Monday morning in Branch County Circuit Court.
On January 8, 2025, a collision between a car and a bicycle resulted in the death of Charles Ward, at the intersection of N Michigan Avenue and Orleans Boulevard.
The driver of the car, 25- year-old Shamaya Porter, was found to have a suspended license and was allegedly using the Snapchat application on her phone in the moments leading up to the 911 call reporting the crash.
A crash reconstruction report by the Michigan State Police indicated that Ward’s bicycle entered the roadway from a stop sign and was struck by Porter’s vehicle, which was estimated to be traveling between 38 and 43 mph. The report noted that the bicycle should have been visible to the driver and that Porter had sufficient distance to stop. Blood test results later showed the presence of THC in Porter’s system.
Porter is charged with Felony Operating- License, Revoked, Denied Causing Death
Porter entered a not guilty plea to the charge Monday morning and had her bond set at $10,000.
If convicted she could face up to 15 years in prison and a fine of up to $10,000.

I hope she gets life in prison don’t get high and drive
