COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Recent rains this week are offering little in the way of providing relief from the drought conditions that have had a grip on Branch County.
The National Weather Service says Coldwater received just over a half inch of rain on Tuesday, hardly enough to make a dent in a precipitation deficit that is now more than 6 inches for the year.
Like a broken record the extended forecast is calling for little if any additional rain over the next ten days.
The lack of rain is also showing up at area lakes, The Riley Dam in Union City has reported that its water levels as much as two- three feet below normal.
The South Chain including Coldwater Lake and Marble Lake have also had levels approaching 5 inches below their spillways which has impacted the water flow in the Coldwater and Sauk Rivers.
The National Drought Monitor will release it’s latest update on Thursday morning.
