COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – A new downtown Coldwater restaurant is scheduled to open for lunch on Thursday while a long time gathering place has been sold and renamed.
Branch County Economic Development Coordinator Erin Veysey reported to the Downtown Development Authority on Wednesday morning that Cedar’s Grille will open at 11:00 a.m. Thursday in the former Shawarma Station at 64 East Chicago.
The building has been painted and new updates have been made. The new owners operate the Crooked Lake Grill and the Crooked Lake Steakhouse in Angola.
Meanwhile, the Lamplighter Lounge was recently sold to Bill and Ashli Vogler and will now be known as the Side Street Beer Bar. The bar and restaurant had been simply known as “The Lamp” to many local patrons for nearly 50 years.

Renovations have been taking place to the interior of the building. An opening date has not been announced yet.
Veysey also announced that the properties at 34 and 36 East Chicago next to Arnold’s Auto Parts have both been sold but she had no information as to who the new owners are. The sale involved 3,400 square feet of space across two buildings.
The Tree House Garden Center used to operate at 34 East Chicago. On line real estate records indicate the property went on the market for $160,000 on August 14. The closing took place two weeks ago with a sale price of $100,000.
