COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – A tentative three year contract agreement with the union representing Branch County Circuit Court employees is scheduled to be presented to the Board of Commissioners during their work session on Thursday afternoon.
Service Employees International Union, Local 517M, represents the employees. The deal would be in effect for 2026, 2027 and 2028.
County Administrator Frank Walsh says in his memo to the Commissioners the major changes include wage increases of four percent in the first year followed by three percent raises in the second and third years.
In addition, one vacation schedule would also be created. the years of longevity pay would be modified and there would be a $250 increase per year for cash-in-lieu payments.
Walsh says there are no pension enhancements provided in the tentative agreement.
Walsh told commissioners last month they were making progress in ongoing contract negotiations with four unions representing county employees and that he was positive new contracts can be reached before the current deals expire on December 31, 2025.
Negotiations are continuing with the Police Officers Association of Michigan and the Command Officers of Michigan along with the union representing District Court employees.
A new three-year contract with the P.O.A.M. for Branch County 911 dispatchers was approved in July.
Contracts also have to be worked out with non-union employees.
