COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Although recent rains have offered some relief, it hasn’t been enough to alleviate the drought conditions that have plagued Branch County for the last three months.
According to the National Weather Service, parts of Branch County have received more than three inches of rain dating back to last weekend, but it just hasn’t been enough.
The latest U.S. Drought Monitor Map still has all of Branch County under moderate drought conditions, while a swath across mid-Michigan remains in a severe drought. In all nearly 40% of the state is listed as experiencing drought conditions.
For the year Branch County still remains just over five inches below normal precipitation. That is down from a six inch deficit in last week’s report.
