SHERWOOD TOWNSHIP, MI (WTVB) – A domestic disturbance in Sherwood Township Tuesday night led to a tense standoff with a man who had threatened law enforcement with a firearm.
Branch County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to the 900 block of Heights Drive at approximately 7:49 p.m. after Central Dispatch reported that a male subject had threatened to shoot police and was outside firing rounds.
Deputies arrived to find a woman and a young child safely inside the residence and quickly worked to remove them from the home and secure the perimeter.
Before deputies could make contact, the suspect had already fled the scene on a motorcycle. The Sheriff’s Office says through skilled communication and negotiation by deputies, the man was convinced to return and surrender peacefully. He was taken into custody without further incident.
A search of the residence yielded multiple firearms, which were secured by deputies. No injuries were reported among the individuals involved and no shots were fired by law enforcement.
The 30-year-old Sherwood man was arrested and lodged at the Branch County Jail. He is currently awaiting a review of formal charges by the Branch County Prosecutor’s Office.
The Branch County Sheriff’s Office was assisted in the successful resolution of the incident by the Michigan State Police, Union City Police Department, Colon Police Department, and Life Care Ambulance.
