NEW BUFFALO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) The Michigan State Police Niles Post, in partnership with the DNA Doe Project, has identified a woman known for decades as “New Buffalo Jane Doe” as 71-year-old Dorothy Glanton of Chicago, Illinois.
Glanton was reported missing in December 1987 and her remains were recovered in April 1988 along the Lake Michigan shoreline near New Buffalo; despite early efforts, her identity could not be determined until 2023 when MSP investigators reopened the case and used genetic genealogy.
Advances in forensic technology and inter-agency collaboration were key to resolving the 37-year-old mystery, which also corrected initial assessments of the woman’s race and age.
