It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of David C. Huss, 72, of Coldwater, MI who left us Thursday, November 13, 2025 from his complications and battle with cancer.
A funeral service will be held Thursday, November 20, 2025 at 12:00 p.m. at Dutcher Funeral Home in Coldwater.
The family will receive guests for visitation that morning from 10:00 a.m. until time of service at the funeral home.
David was born in Angola, IN March 7, 1953 to Hershel and Ella (Northam) Huss. He and his life-long best friend Jeff Arnold were born one day apart. He spent his youth in Fremont, IN before his family moved to Coldwater where he met the love of his life, Randi Halferty. They were high school sweethearts and were married June 1, 1974 in Coldwater.
David was an excellent mechanic and worked for nearly 50 years at Arnold’s Auto Parts before retiring in 2016. He could fix anything and spent much of his spare time in his garage working on cars, motorcycles, and riding them. He was very intelligent, and like his father, invented several helpful mechanisms.
David loved motorcycles and built several of his own from parts he could find. He co-founded a motorcycle club named the Marauders that would often meet on the weekends at their clubhouse. He rode his Harley to Sturgis, South Dakota several times for the annual bike week and treasured memories.
He was active with the UCT’s until 1973 and later in life, he became a member of the ROMEOs (Retired Old Men Eating Out) with his school friends reliving all their escapades.
David’s other passion in life was gardening. Every day in the summertime, you could find David working in his garden growing tomatoes, peppers, onions, cucumbers, and much more. Randi would often say that he grew too many veggies for their own use, but he didn’t mind. He would do his own research on varieties, ideal growing conditions for each kind, and invented an intricate irrigation system for the whole garden. David always generously shared the bounty of his gardens with others.
David also found his joys in garage and estate sales as he never was one to shy away from a good deal; but above all else, David cherished and loved his family.
David leaves behind his devoted wife, Randi Huss of Coldwater; his two sons Jesse (Becca) Huss of Jenison, MI, Joshua (Kandi Bottomely) Huss of Coldwater; his sister Robin Huss Hissey of Mishawaka, IN; his grandchildren Paris Huss, Lily Huss, Ella (Eliot) Huss, Molly (Milo) Huss; his many loving nieces and nephews and his beloved dogs Sherlock and Lucy that brought many smiles and much laughter to his life.
David was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings Nancy Noyes, Barbara Hanna, Jean Huss, and Larry Huss.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are suggested to the charity of one’s choice.
