Raymond (Tony) Anthony Posante Jr.- Somak, 63, of Brooksville, FL, formerly of Hartford, CT; Danville, VA, and Coldwater, MI, a shining light in the lives of all who knew him, was called home to his Lord and Savior November 28, 2025.
His infectious spirit and zest for life inspired countless individuals, and his passing leaves a void that can never be filled.
Everybody loved Raymond (Tony), and his presence in their lives was a precious gift. He had a unique ability to touch hearts, and his love for the elderly and young children was a testament to his beautiful soul. Many times, he selflessly paid for an elderly person’s groceries while standing in line, and his kindness brought joy to countless children as he won stuffed animals from the claw machine and distributed them with a warm smile. Raymond (Tony) never sought recognition; he simply wanted to spread love, happiness, and kindness wherever he went.
His love for his family, his ability to make people laugh, and his willingness to listen to those who needed someone to talk to were just a few of his remarkable traits. He loved to cruise the streets in his younger years, singing along with Cher and Dolly Parton, and always keeping his vehicle spotless. A true warrior, Raymond (Tony) bravely battled being shot and surviving Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, being in remission for 16 years, and most recently struggled with heart and lung failure, never losing his spirit or will to live.
Baptized Lutheran, his faith in his Lord, Jesus Christ was unwavering, and he was dedicated to living a life that reflected his love for God and humanity. Raymond (Tony)’s love for people led him to a career in restaurants, retail, and Danville General Hospital, where he touched the lives of everyone he met.
In 2002, he met the love of his life, Garey Samok Sr., and they shared 23 years (6 married) of love, laughter, and adventure together. Garey never left his side, and their love continued to grow stronger with each passing day.
Raymond (Tony) was blessed with a loving stepfamily, including his stepchildren, Garey Samok, Jr. and Lauren Samok; four step-grandchildren; and three step-great-grandchildren. He also leaves behind his sisters-in-law, RoseAnn (Wayne) Burgess; Karen Roberts; many step nieces and his beloved fur babies, Zena, Ricky, and Lucy. His brother, Steve (Barb Groholske) Posante; sisters, Dorothy Barrow, Reyne (Pete) Yockey, Eva (Dan) Speaker, and Gert (Jack) Longrey; sister-in-law, Kimlene Posante; and Aunt Betty Kiefer, along with numerous nieces, nephews, great and great-great nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends, will deeply miss him.
As Raymond (Tony) is welcomed home by our Heavenly Father, he is reunited with his parents, Raymond Sr. and Dorothy Posante; sister Dorothy Jr.; brothers, Daniel and Mark Posante; nephew Joshua Walter and brother-in-law Jess Barrow along with many other family members. His precious fur babies, Tanner, Alex, Buckwheat, and Bentley.
Though his passing leaves a void in our lives, his legacy of love, kindness, compassion, fun loving, practical joking, and strong-will, will continue to inspire us to live our lives to the fullest and to spread love and joy to those around us.
In lieu of a service, cremation has taken place, if you would like to give a memorial, please consider the American Heart or Cancer Foundation in Raymond (Tony)’s name.
