RICHLAND, MI (WTVB) – Coldwater had a 31-26 halftime lead over Gull Lake in their boys basketball season opener Tuesday night. The Blue Devils outscored the Cardinals 41-31 in the second half to pick up a 67-62 win.
Gavin Taylor drained four triples and led Coldwater with 26 points and 5 rebounds. Julian Thompson added 8 points and 7 boards, while Bennett McDonald scored 7 and Austin Downs had 6. Jackson Reilly had 7 rebounds to go with his 4 points.
Gavin Markucki led all scorers with 27 points for Gull Lake, who snapped a 12-game losing streak dating back to last season with the victory.
The Cardinals will host former Twin Valley rival Hillsdale Friday night.

Gull Lake won the JV game 44-33. Kolton Rice had 12 points to lead Coldwater, while Wayne Case added 10 and Jack Aker had 7. The Blue Devils also won the freshman contest 56-29. Grant Miller led the Cardinals with 9 points.
