COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Even though the work is not scheduled until 2027, the Michigan Department of Transportation Wednesday awarded the City of Coldwater a grant of up to $375,000 to rebuild a major intersection on the city’s south side.
The Transportation Economic Development Fund grant will be combined with $435,000 in matching funds from the city to rebuild the Industrial Avenue/South Clay Street/I-69 Business Loop (Old US-27) (Division Street) intersection. The project is designed to improve visibility, road conditions, and access for commercial vehicles.
Industrial Avenue, South Clay Street, and the I-69 Business Loop are seen as commercial and industrial corridors serving the City of Coldwater garage; public transit; auto, window and door manufacturers; and plastics, foam and steel distributors.
The total project cost is $810,000, with the state grant for 46% of construction costs.
The city just completed a major project on South Clay Street, just north of the intersection.
Coldwater is one of 11 cities around the state receiving money totaling $3.9 million.
