COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Branch County Board of Commissioners brought forward a request from County Clerk Terry Kubasiak during their work session on Thursday to increase notary fees in her office from five dollars to ten dollars starting on January 1, 2026.
Kubasiak told Commissioners the fee would not be charged for anyone who needed court documents notarized.
State law allows for a fee of up to ten dollars to be charged for the notarization of documents.
Kubasiak says the five dollar fee has been in place in Branch County for over 15 years.
She adds the requirements for record keeping have increased over the years and that the fee increase is competitive with other agencies that provide notary services.
Commissioners are expected to take formal action on the request during their regular meeting on Tuesday.
