BRONSON, MI (WTVB) – The City of Bronson is evaluating its rental property inspection program and determined that an increase in revenue is necessary to cover current expenses and the costs associated with its contract with SAFEbuilt.
The current fees were established when the program launched in 2018 and are no longer sufficient to fund the program’s operations. The proposed adjustment would bring Bronson’s rates closer to market standards, as many other Michigan cities charge similar or higher fees for initial and re-inspections.
In addition to covering operational costs, the city is also looking to increase fines for non-compliance.
Proposed increases to the late registration fee and ticket amounts aim to serve as a more effective deterrent for landlords who do not adhere to the ordinance. By ensuring the cost of non-compliance is significantly higher than the cost of following the rules, the city hopes to secure better compliance and ultimately preserve safe and healthy rental housing for all residents.
