COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Health Officer Rebecca Burns told the Branch-Hillsdale-St. Joseph Community Health Agency Board of Directors on Thursday that the five confirmed cases of chickenpox that the agency reported on last week were in Hillsdale County.
The agency initially reported that the chickenpox cases involved youngsters “within the jurisdiction.”
The health agency continues to recommend that residents check immunization records and get vaccinated if needed.
Prevention includes avoiding contact with people who have the rash, washing hands often, and getting two doses of the varicella vaccine.
Burns said in her report that most individuals who have received the vaccine or previously had chickenpox are considered protected. Breakthrough cases in vaccinated individuals tend to be mild, with fewer blisters and little or no fever.
