The University of Michigan announced Moore’s termination in a statement issued at 4:43 p.m. . Athletic Director Warde Manuel cited “credible evidence” from a university investigation that Moore “engaged in an inappropriate relationship with a staff member as a “clear violation of University policy”.
Later in the evening, police detained Moore. The Saline Police Department assisted in locating and detaining him before turning the case over to the Pittsfield Township Police Department for investigation into potential charges.
Police responded to a call for an alleged assault at 4:10 p.m. in the 3000 block of Ann Arbor Saline Road, shortly before the firing announcement.
Moore was booked into the Washtenaw County Jail at 8:30 p.m. last night and remained in custody as of early this morning.
Pittsfield police stated that a suspect was taken into custody, the incident “does not appear to be random in nature,” and there is “no ongoing threat to the community”. Due to the ongoing investigation’s sensitive nature, further details have not been released by law enforcement.
Biff Poggi has been named the interim head coach for the team, which is preparing for the Citrus Bowl against Texas on New Year’s Eve.
