HILLSDALE, MI (WTVB) – Hillsdale Hospital is partnering with the American Red Cross to host a community blood drive on Thursday, December 18, aiming to boost local and national blood supplies.
The event, which welcomes all eligible donors and blood types, will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Hillsdale United Brethren Church, located at 1300 S. Hillsdale Rd.
To make an appointment, visit https://www.redcrossblood.org/give.html/find-drive, then enter the 49242 zip code or sponsor code Hillshospital; walk-in donors are also accepted.
According to Kyrsten Newlon, Hillsdale Hospital’s director of communications and donor development, hosting blood drives is a regular event for the hospital because they understand the value of blood donations in critical conditions, adding that whether a donation ends up at Hillsdale Hospital or elsewhere, it is a lifesaving component of patient care.
The Red Cross says that blood is routinely transfused to patients with cancer and other diseases, premature babies, organ transplant recipients and trauma victims, and that donors of all blood types are needed, especially those with types O negative, B negative and A negative, with Type O negative being the universal blood type that can be safely transfused to anyone and is often used to treat trauma patients
