COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater Cardinal basketball teams welcomed the Marshall Redhawks to the Coach Floyd Eby Gymnasium Friday on Parents Night and split the two varsity contests.
GIRLS: Coldwater 47, Marshall 40
Coldwater outscored Marshall 16-2 in the final quarter as they prevailed 47-40. The Lady Cards led 17-10 after the first quarter, but the Redhawks outscored their hosts 14-3 in the second to take a 24-20 halftime lead. Marshall stretched the lead out to seven points, 38-31, thanks to a 14-11 third quarter, before Coldwater turned on the defensive pressure in the final stanza to earn the victory.
Addi Bucklin led the way for the Cardinals with 14 points and 5 steals. Mya Porter had 11 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists, and 2 steals, while Coley Burkhardt also scored 11 points while adding 6 boards and 2 steals. Rylie VanAken had 7 points and 4 rebounds, and Danika Cox had a team-high 7 boards to go with 4 points, 2 assists, and 3 steals.
Ally Koenig led all scorers with 17 for Marshall; no other Redhawk player reached double digits as the Cardinal defense forced 24 turnovers.
Coldwater improved to 1-1 overall, 1-0 in the Interstate 8, and will host defending league champion Parma Western next Tuesday. Marshall fell to 1-1 overall, 0-1 in league play.
Marshall won the JV contest 52-16.

BOYS: Marshall 56, Coldwater 44
Marshall used a 17-7 advantage in the second quarter to turn a 12-8 first quarter deficit to a 25-19 halftime lead. The Redhawks prevailed 56-44 to stay undefeated on the season at 3-0 overall, 1-0 in the Interstate 8.
No Coldwater player cracked double digits scoring; Julian Thompson and Bennett McDonald each scored 9, with Thompson adding 6 rebounds, while Dayton Ennis added 8 points, 3 assists, and 3 steals.
Only four players scored for Marshall: Clark Erwin and Lincoln Fuller each had 15, Lee Hall added 12, and Matthew Waito scored 11.
The Cardinals fell to 1-4 overall, 0-1 in the Interstate 8. They will visit Parma Western next Tuesday.
