COLDWATER, MI WTVB) – The Coldwater City Council is issuing a proactive reminder to all residents regarding existing city ordinances on overnight street parking.
City Manager Keith Baker says that parking on any city street is strictly prohibited between the hours of 2:00 a.m. and 6:00 a.m. This ordinance is critical for city crews, as it allows them sufficient access to effectively clear leaves and snow during seasonal maintenance operations.
Vehicles found in violation during the restricted hours are subject to ticketing and may be towed at the owner’s expense.
In addition to street parking regulations, the city is also reinforcing rules regarding where vehicles can be parked on private property. Parking a vehicle on an approved surface, such as grass in a front yard, is a violation of the city’s property maintenance code. Baker says that this practice detracts from neighborhood appearance and property values. Offenders will receive tickets and must move their vehicles to an appropriate driveway or store them in the rear or side yard.
For those needing overnight parking options, the city’s downtown public parking lots do allow for overnight parking, provided vehicles are left only in designated areas to facilitate proper maintenance and snow removal.
