COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The high-profile felony trial of 48-year-old Anthony Cuyler is set to begin Tuesday in Branch County.
Cuyler , who has a listed address of Angola, Indiana, was charged in 2019 in connection with multiple alleged criminal incidents. He faces multiple severe charges, including Delivery of Methamphetamine to a minor, three counts of First Degree Criminal Sexual Conduct, Possession of Methamphetamine, and Possession of Ammunition by a Felon.
The proceedings follow a lengthy international pursuit that ended in April 2024, when U.S. Marshals extradited Cuyler from Mexico under the “Operation Survivor Justice” program.
He had been a fugitive since fleeing the country to avoid the original charges.
The Marshals Service then launched a fugitive investigation into Cuyler’s whereabouts and during the investigation, they determined he was in Mexico.
The Cuyler was later expelled from Mexico and arrested by the U.S. Marshals. He was subsequently brought back to Michigan to face the Branch County criminal charges.
As part of Operation Survivor Justice, the Michigan Attorney General’s Office will lead the prosecution of this case.
A retired judge from Grand Rapids has been appointed to preside over the case, filling the vacancy left by the recent resignation of Branch County Circuit Court Judge Bill O’Grady. The trial will be the first heard in the county’s newly modernized circuit courtroom.
