BRANCH COUNTY, MI (WTVB) – It’s called the best weekend of the year in pro football, the four divisional round playoff games with trips to the conference finals on the line.
The Pigskin Prophet had a 3-3 record in the wildcard round last weekend. As the kids would say, Meh!
Piggy was looking good on his Green Bay Packer pick at halftime but as we all know, the Pack had an all time gag job in their 31-27 loss to the Chicago Bears. This after Green Bay led 21-3 at the half and were in total domination.
Bears Coach Ben Johnson should bottle his halftime speech. It was like the two teams changed uniforms after the first 30 minutes.
Rumor has it the Packers will be appearing in the sequel to the 1990’s movie “Tin Cup”. There will be no joy in our home office for six months and all Packer fans have gone into hiding until next fall. That means we won’t be seeing any of those stupid cheesehead hats for awhile.
With last Saturday’s win, the Bears get another home game late Sunday afternoon against Matthew Stafford and the Los Angeles Rams.
Both teams survived and advanced last weekend with come-from-behind victories in the wildcard round.
The PP thinks the noisy Chicago crowd and the brutal winter weather will be big factors in favor of Daaaaaa Bears.
Game time temperature is expected to be in the upper teens. Brrrrrrr, that’s too cold for the folks from So Cal.
The PP says Bears 21, Rams 13
Piggy thinks chalk will hold in the NFL playoffs this season and that the top two seeds in each conference will meet next week.
In the other divisional playoff games
Denver 28, Buffalo 24
Seattle 31, San Francisco 17
New England 24, Houston 17
Piggy split on his two CFP semifinal predictions. The college football season ends Monday night with Indiana playing Miami of Florida for the National Championship at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami.
Just remember as Herb Brooks told the U.S. Olympic Hockey team before they beat the Soviets at the 1980 Winter Olympics, one game.
For all practical purposes, it’s a home game for the Hurricanes. While Miami has been terrific in knocking off Texas A&M, Ohio State and Ole Miss, they can not afford any mistakes against the Hurrying Hoosiers. That means no turnovers and no silly penalties.
PP thinks Ole Miss exposed Miami’s defense in the second half last week and the Canes can not play like that against Mendoza and Company.
Indiana has put 94 points on the board in their last two games. Piggy doesn’t see Indiana slowing down Monday night.
The PP says Indiana 41, Miami of Florida 20.
After going 4-4 last week, the PP is now 146-89-1 overall for the season.
