BRANCH COUNTY, MI (WTVB) – Hard to believe but we have arrived at our next-to-last Pigskin Prophet report for the 2025-2026 season.
The Pigskin Prophet had a 3-1 record in the NFL Divisional round last weekend.
Matthew Stafford and the L.A. Rams prevented Piggy from running the table as they defeated the Chicago Bears 20-17 in overtime last Sunday night. The winning score took place after a Rams interception when Bears receiver D.J. Moore stopped running his route.
If Piggy was running the Bears, Moore would be dealt out of Chicago ASAP. A wonderful season for the Bears and a possible shot at the Super Bowl ended because of his bonehead play.
In the other predictions for the divisional playoff games….
Denver 28, Buffalo 24 (Broncos won in OT 33-30)
Seattle 31, San Francisco 17 (Seahawks trounced the 49ers 41-6)
New England 24, Houston 17 (Patriots won 28-16)
Conference championships are on the line this Sunday.
In the NFC, Piggy thinks this is Seattle’s year. The Seahawks got the number one seed and a bye in the wildcard round. They hardly broke a sweat as they dispatched the 49ers and will be fresh playing in front of “The 12th Man” this weekend.
The Rams have won twice on the road in the post season but playing a third straight game away from So Cal will catch up to them this weekend.
Stafford should keep it close but Piggy thinks the Seahawks will pull away in the second half. Sam Darnold has been terrific at quarterback for Seattle. To bad the Minnesota Vikings can’t get a guy like that to be their QB. Oh yeah, that’s right.
The Pigskin Prophet says Seattle 38, L.A. Rams 24
The AFC title game featuring New England at Denver has taken an interesting turn with Broncos quarterback Bo Nix out with a broken ankle.
The Patriots are back and they are not going away for a long time. New England should have a cake walk on Sunday even though the game is in Denver. Somebody named Jarrett Stidham will be the starting quarterback for the Broncos. Google him kids. New England’s Drake Maye has become one of the top quarterbacks in the NFL.
The :Pigskin Prophet says New England 34, Denver 14
The college football season ended last Monday night with Indiana’s 27-21 National Championship victory over Miami of Florida at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami. The PP picked Indiana to win 41-20 so he was a bit surprised that the game was closer than what he thought it would be.
A lot of calls went against the Hoosiers who were favored by 7 1/2 points. IU won but they didn’t cover thanks in large part to a lot of questionable calls by the stripes. As C+C Music Factory and Freedom Williams said back in 1990, Things That Make You Go Hmmmmm….
The PP was thrilled to see Indiana win a national title in football on Monday and he was especially happy for the longtime voice of the Hoosiers Don Fischer. He was there in 1976 when Bob Knight’s basketball team ran the table and he called an undefeated season of Indiana football 50 years later.
After going 4-1 last week, the PP is now 150-90-1 overall for the season.
