BRANCH COUNTY, MI (WTVB) – The New England Patriots and the Seattle Seahawks will hook up in Super Bowl LX on Sunday night in Santa Clara, California and it’s time for the Pigskin Prophet to make his final prediction of the season.
In the spirit of Marshawn Lynch, the Pigskin Prophet is just here because he doesn’t want to get fined.
Seattle earned the number one seed in the NFC which allowed them to play in front of their 12th man during the post season.
The Seahawks manhandled the 49ers 41-7 in the divisional round and then defeated the L.A. Rams 31-27 in a thrilling NFC title game.
New England was a surprise winner of the AFC East and earned the number two seed in their conference. They defeated the L.A. Chargers 16-3, Houston 28-16 and Denver 10-7. They caught a break when Denver had to play the AFC Title game without starting quarterback Bo Nix due to a broken ankle.
The career for Seattle quarterback Sam Darnold can be summed up in the 1977 song by the Grateful Dead, What a Long Strange Trip It’s Been. After being the third overall pick in the 2018 draft, he flopped with the Jets, Panthers and 49ers.
Darnold went 14-4 with the Vikings last season but for some strange reason, Minnesota decided to go with J.J. McCarthy at quarterback. Darnold was picked up by Seattle and the rest is history. He is 28-7 as a starting quarterback in the last two seasons.
New England QB Drake Maye is a rising star after throwing 31 touchdown passes this season but the Patriots hang their hats on defense.
The Pats have allowed 18-point-8 points per game, fourth best in the NFL.
While the New England defense will keep the game close, the Pigskin Prophet likes Seattle because of Darnold and their special teams or as Lee Corso used to say, the kicking game.
Seattle had a kickoff return for a TD against the 49ers and forced a critical fumble by the Rams.
The Pigskin Prophet says….SEATTLE 23, NEW ENGLAND 13
After correctly predicting a Seahawks-Patriots Super Bowl, the PP is 152-90-1 overall for the season.
With the football season ending, Piggy’s work is done. He is heading to the Hog’s Breath Saloon in Key West for a long vacation and will return when the high school football season starts in August.
