SPRING ARBOR TOWNSHIP, MI (WTVB) – A 72-year-old Ohio man was killed Monday afternoon in Spring Arbor Township after a semi-truck rear-ended his SUV at the intersection of M-60 and Spring Arbor Road.
According to the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, the victim was traveling westbound in a Subaru Outback when he was struck while approaching a traffic signal at approximately 12:45 p.m.
The driver was transported to Henry Ford Hospital with life-threatening injuries but later passed away, while his 71-year-old female passenger remains in stable condition.
The 36-year-old driver of the semi-truck, who was uninjured in the collision, was arrested at the scene and is currently held at the Jackson County Jail on charges of moving violation causing death.
Preliminary evidence suggests speed may have been a contributing factor, and the Sheriff’s Office Accident Reconstruction Team is continuing its investigation.
