HILLSDALE, MI (WTVB) – The murder trial for Dale Warner, the Lenawee County farmer accused of killing his wife, Dee Warner, in 2021, is resuming today in Lenawee County Circuit Court.
After a lengthy jury selection process, opening statements began last week, with prosecutors detailing a grim discovery from August 2024 when Dee Warner’s remains were found wrapped in a tarp and sealed inside a welded-shut anhydrous ammonia tank on a family property.
Medical examiners determined she died from strangulation and blunt force trauma to the head.
Testimony resumes today following the Presidents Day holiday, with the prosecution presenting body camera footage showing Dale Warner’s early interactions with investigators, where he suggested his wife may have simply left home voluntarily.
While the defense maintains the case is built on “speculation and innuendo” due to a lack of direct physical evidence linking Warner killing, prosecutors argue that a pattern of domestic control and financial disputes led to the murder.
The trial is expected to last between seven and nine weeks as dozens of witnesses are called to the stand.
