BRANCH COUNTY, MI (WTVB) – A total of eleven wrestlers – two from Coldwater, four from Bronson, and five from Union City – will take part in the MHSAA Individual Finals on March 6th and 7th at Ford Field in Detroit after finishing in the top four in their respective weight classes as this past weekend’s Individual Regionals.

At the Division 2 Lowell Regional on Saturday, Cardinal wrestlers Ruben Torres (138) and Raul Cecilio (215) placed third in their respective weight classes.

At Saturday’s Division 3 Regional at Leslie, three Viking wrestlers brought home Regional titles: Gabriel Erwin (175), Layne Knisely (190), and Sam Tappenden (285). Brycen Fincham (165) was fourth in his weight class.

At the Division 4 Regional Saturday at Martin, the Chargers’ Blayne Crance (132) won a Regional championship, while teammates Kaden Russell (126), Mitchell Graham (138), and Isaiah Waidelich (157) were third in their weight classes.

And at Sunday’s Girls Regional at Jackson, Union City’s Onalee Taylor (105) qualified for the Individual Finals with her third place finish.
Union City now knows who their next opponent will be in the Division 4 Team Tournament, following Sunday’s seeding meeting. The fifth-seeded Chargers will face the fourth-seeded Decatur Raiders in the Quarterfinals Friday at noon at Wings Event Center in Kalamazoo. The Union City-Decatur winner will face either #1 Hudson or #8 Powers North Central in the Semifinals Saturday morning at 9:30 a.m. The Finals in all four divisions will be at 3:45 p.m. on Saturday.
