COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater City Council introduced a pair of ordinances on Monday night which would increase fines for parking violations for the first time in 30 years.
Director of Public Safety Joe Scheid said in a memo to City Manager Keith Baker the proposed ordinances would define and clarify fines for both front yard and overnight on street parking violations.
The current penalty for parking in a front yard is five dollars while it’s $10 for parking on the streets between 2:00 a.m. and 6:00 a.m..
Scheid is proposing to increase the penalties to $25 across the board because he says they are seeing repeat offenders.
One of the ordinances will amend the Uniform Traffic Code covering front yard parking violations.
Audience member Chad Erickson expressed his unhappiness about the front yard parking proposal.
Formal action is expected to be taken by the Council during their meeting on March 9. If adopted, the ordinances will take effect 21 days after publication.
