COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) -Police in Coldwater are continuing their search for a suspect involved in a high-value copper heist at American Copper and Brass this past weekend
The theft, which occurred between late Saturday night and early Sunday morning resulted in the theft of nearly $100,000 in copper coils and scrap.
Surveillance footage shows an unidentified Black male suspect used a forklift from the business to load the materials onto a stolen U-Haul trailer, which was being towed by a grey SUV similar to a Ford Expedition.
Investigators released new video footage on Wednesday showing the suspect at a separate location, The Storage Bin The , where the U-Haul trailer was originally stolen before the break-in.
Coldwater Public Safety Director Joe Scheid says they alerted regional scrap yards, though officials noted that rising copper prices hitting roughly $6.00 per pound this year have made such materials difficult to track once melted down.
A $2500 reward is being offered for information leading to an arrest; tips can be directed to the Coldwater Police Department at 517-278-4525.
