BRANCH COUNTY, MI (WTVB) – Six bowlers from Branch County took part in the MHSAA Singles Finals on Saturday.
All bowlers participated in a six-game qualifying block, with the top sixteen advancing to the match play rounds. The winner of each match is determined by a two-game pinfall total.
Division 2 at Century Bowl, Waterford
Coldwater’s lone representative at the Division 2 Singles Finals, sophomore Grace Tuttle, finished 27th in the girls qualifying block with a six-game score of 997 and did not advance to match play.
Division 3 at Jax 60, Jackson
In the boys competition at the Division 3 Singles Finals, Bronson junior Clayton Shortridge advanced to match play by finishing 15th in the qualifying block with a six-game score of 1,205. Fellow junior Drew McConn was 21st with a score of 1,178, and Quincy junior Drew Carlisle was 44th with a score of 1,016.
In the match play round of 16, Shortridge defeated Alex Bissett of Flint Powers Catholic 385-368. Shortridge lost to Olivet’s Michael Fitzner in a close quarterfinal match 409-397.
The girls competition saw Bronson freshman Audrey Shiery finished sixth in the qualifying block with a six-game score of 1,149. Quincy junior Ally Janssen was 50th with a score of 868. In match play, Shiery lost to Grass Lake’s Marielle Schafran 369-284 in the round of 16. Schafran would go on to win the Division 3 Girls title.
