KALAMAZOO, MI (WTVB) – Union City’s dreams of making the Final Four in Division 4 at the MHSAA Team Wrestling Tournament were dashed Friday afternoon at Wings Event Center in Kalamazoo, as the fourth-seeded Chargers were beaten by the fifth-seed Decatur Raiders 52-28
The match started well for the Chargers. Mitchell Graham got a 12-1 major decision at 144. Kelub Miller then scored a pin at 150 to give Union City a 10-0 lead. The Raiders then won eight of the next nine nine matches following Miller’s pin to build up an insurmountable lead. The only victory during that stretch for the Chargers came at 190, as Carson Dankey scored a pin. Union City later got pinfalls from Caden Russell at 126 and from Blaine Krantz at 138.
Union City finishes the team portion of their schedule with a record of 27-9. Decatur improved to 38-6 and will face top-seeded Hudson Saturday morning in the Semifinals. The Finals will take place Saturday afternoon at 3:45 p.m.
