COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – With just over two months until election day, local school districts are gearing up their information efforts for upcoming bond issues.
Coldwater Community Schools sent out a bond proposal information flyer to district residents over the weekend, detailing the plans for the major addition and renovation of the current high school if their $64 million proposal passes May 5. It includes a message from Superintendent Paul Flynn, who says “While we acknowledge that this proposal represents a tax increase, the committee ultimately agreed on a plan that would result in a 1.5 mill increase, balancing identified needs with sensitivity to our taxpayers.”
The district says for residents with a $200,000 home, the yearly increase would be $150.

The first of two Quincy Community Schools information meetings for their May 5 $60 million ballot proposal is scheduled for this evening.
According to Superintendent John Denney, the meetings will include a summary of facility needs, an overview of proposed projects, financial impact information, and building tours.
Quincy’s bond proposal will appear as a 5.3 mill increase on the ballot. With other existing debt being paid off, Denney says the net increase for voters would be around 4.5 mills.
The bond plan, developed after an assessment revealed an immediate need for $8.7 million in critical repairs, focuses on renovating existing structures rather than building new schools.
Plans include:
Demolishing the existing 1931 middle school building to create a new parking lot.
Converting the old middle school gymnasium into a “cafetorium” with a kitchen and stage.
Renovating the current high school to accommodate middle school administration and science labs.
Adding a new two-story classroom building and gymnasium at the high school.
Building a new bus garage and expanding parking at Jennings Elementary.
The meetings will be held Monday, March 2 in the Jennings Elementary School Cafeteria and Thursday, March 12 in the Middle School Cafeteria. Both of the meetings will begin at 6:30 p.m.
