ROCKFORD, MI (WTVB) – Coldwater High School senior Sofia Gruner has qualified for the state gymnastics finals this weekend, after a seventh place on the beam at the regionals this past Saturday at Rockford High School.
Coldwater had six girls get a minimum of four qualifying scores to advance to the regionals, with one competing on beam, three on floor, and five on vault. The qualifiers were Gruner and fellow senior Macy Poradzisz. juniors Kristian Thornton and Annika Johnson, and sophomores Kennedy Austin and Maryfer Galvan.
On the floor, there were three girls who competed, starting with Macy Poradzisz, debuting her final routine and getting a score of 7.25. Annika Johnson’s routine earned her an 8.2, while Gruner scored a 7.5.
On the vault, Coldwater had five girls competing. Kennedy Austin was up first, getting a 7.75. Maryfer Galvan had her best vault of the season and scored a 7.8. Annika Johnson was up next, also competing in some of her best vaults, scoring an 8.25. Gruner scoring an 8.45, and Kristian Thornton scored a 7.95.
Gruner was the only Coldwater gymnast to compete on the beam. scoring a personal best with an 8.7.
The state individual finals will be held Saturday, March 7 at Milford High School.
