ADRIAN, MI (WTVB) – Closing arguments are scheduled to begin today , in the high-profile murder trial of Dale Warner.
Warner is charged with open murder and tampering with evidence in the 2021 death of his wife, Dee Warner, whose remains were discovered in August 2024 welded inside a fertilizer tank on the family’s property.
After 12 days of testimony, the defense rested its case on Tuesday following the appearance of three witnesses, including Dee’s brother, Gregg Hardy, and Dale’s ex-wife. Dale Warner himself declined to testify during the proceedings.
Prosecutors contend that the killing was premeditated, occurring as the couple’s marriage was collapsing over financial disputes and Dee’s intent to file for divorce. During the trial, evidence was presented including surveillance footage of Warner gathering welding tools and testimony regarding inconsistencies in his initial statements to police.
The defense has consistently argued that the prosecution’s case lacks sufficient direct evidence and previously moved for a directed verdict, which was denied by Judge Michael Olsaver. Once closing statements conclude, the case will be handed to the jury to deliberate on charges of first-degree premeditated murder, second-degree murder, and evidence tampering.
