COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – There could be spirited bidding this spring for providing garbage service in Coldwater.
For over 14 years, the City has contracted with Republic Waste Services for refuse, recycling, and large item pick up services. The current contract is expiring May 31, 2026.
City Manager Keith Baker says while the City has been pleased with the service provided by Republic, there are at least six refuse collection providers that have expressed interest in bidding on the city’s residential refuse collection contract. He says rebidding the contract would ensure that the City receives the most cost effective and highest service level possible.
The city council Monday is expected to review and approve a Request for Proposal to cover refuse collection, bi-weekly recycling collection, refuse collection at municipal sites, and weekly large item pickup. An alternate has been included for possible yard waste paper bag collection.
The proposed RFP stipulates that the new contract would be for three years with two subsequent three-year extensions possible. If approved, bids would be due by and opened at April 9, 2026.
