Richard “Dick” D. Fast, 97, of Union City passed away Wednesday, March 4, 2026 at Insight Hospital and Medical Center Coldwater.
In keeping with Dick’s wishes, he will be cremated and a gathering of family and friends will take place Saturday, April 11, 2026 from 1:00-4:00 p.m. at the Burlington Township Fire Hall, 215 West Leroy Street, Burlington, MI.
Private interment will be at Riverside Cemetery in Union City at a later date.
The family is being served by Lighthouse Funeral & Cremation in Union City.
Dick was born September 7, 1928 to John and Celia (Cushing) Fast in Battle Creek, Michigan. He graduated from Battle Creek Central High School with the Class of 1947. On April 9, 1950, he married Donna Jean Adams in Athens, Michigan; they shared 72 years together and she preceded him in death on October 6, 2022.
Over the years, Dick worked at the Power Plant in Midland; was a Journeyman tile keeper, installing flooring; Eaton Corporation in Battle Creek; Brant Sinclair Gas Company in Union City; AMAX Specialty Metals in Coldwater; and many years at Merchant’s Hardware in Union City.
Dick enjoyed woodworking, golfing, bowling, craft shows, camping, fishing, and watching the Detroit Tigers. He liked being social at the Union City Senior Center and the time he worked at Merchant’s.
Surviving Dick are his children, Bob (Dora) Fast of Burlington, David (Kathy) Fast of Plainfield, IN, and Dea (Mike) Fahnestock of Evart; his bonus daughter, Shannon (Dean) Hoskins of Battle Creek; grandchildren, Troy, Kelley, Larry, Tony, Joshua, Mikayla and Jake; 10 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great grandchildren; and tons of nieces and nephews and many friends.
In addition to his wife Donna, Dick was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings, Beverly Tunning, Jackie Whittaker, and Bill Fast.
