UNION CITY, MI (WTVB) – In the days following the tragic tornado in Union City, many are balancing dealing with the tragedy while trying to find some semblance of normalcy.
Among those are the athletes at Union City High School, the tornado touched down on the same afternoon the girls basketball team was scheduled to play in the district championship and just three days from the beginning of practice for spring sports.
Charger baseball coach John Bain says the beginning of the season has been anything but routine with his team being hit directly by the tragedy including a player losing their home
Bain says his players in addition to going to school and practice have found time to do outreach in the community including assisting with clean up in one of the hardest hit areas
Through it all though it’s baseball that has become an escape if only for a couple hours a day
The Charger baseball team is scheduled to open their season two weeks from today at home against White Pigeon.
