COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Despite winds clocking in at over 45 mph at times, Coldwater and Branch County rallied together Friday to raise $20,700 during the annual Roof Sit for a Cause at the Coldwater McDonald’s on East Chicago Street.
WTVB’s Ken Delaney and Kim Hemker, Executive Director of the Branch County Coalition Against Domestic and Sexual Violence (BCCADSV), braved the elements before being forced to come down from the rooftop a little early due to the weather conditions.
The annual event secures critical funding for survivors of domestic and sexual violence and was bolstered by matching grants from the Maynard family’s McDonald’s and the Creal Family Foundation.
The money raised total will directly benefit the Naomi Davis Shelterhouse, which is currently celebrating its 40th anniversary of providing 24/7 crisis response, emergency shelter, and legal advocacy in Branch County.
Beyond emergency services, the funds also support long-term prevention initiatives like the Altrusa Teen Share and Character Education programs, which aim to break the cycle of abuse through youth education.
