COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – An era came to a bittersweet end on Sunday as The Goodie Shop, a staple of downtown Coldwater for over seven decades, served its final meals.
Owner Veronica Carter fired up the grill one last time at the 1950s-style diner. Carter, who has been a fixture at the 30 N. Monroe St. location since childhood and took the reins from her father in 2018, decided to sell the family business to prioritize time with family.
The closing drew a massive crowd of regulars and out-of-state fans, all eager for one last taste of the diner’s famous scratch-made biscuits and gravy—a recipe unchanged since Carter’s grandfather introduced it in 1985.
While the Carter family is moving on, the landmark won’t stay dark for long. A buyer from Fort Wayne, Indiana, is expected to finalize the purchase in the coming weeks.
The new owner plans to keep the space as a restaurant and has acquired the rights to the Goodie Shop name and its original recipes, ensuring the diner’s legacy lives on.
