SHERWOOD TOWNSHIP, MI (WTVB) – A little more than a week after a historic EF-3 tornado devastated parts of Branch County, the Sherwood Township Board took a major step toward recovery Monday night by approving a resolution to “cut through the red tape” for displaced residents.
Township Supervisor Toren Stanton says measure, passed during a special disaster relief meeting last night, allows homeowners to park RVs or campers on their property as temporary housing
The resolution relaxes setback requirements for those rebuilding on existing foundations, addressing the urgent need for shelter as approximately 70 homes in the area were damaged or destroyed with many uninhabitable.
To further support the community, a Multi-Agency Resource Center will be held this Friday, March 20, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Union City Senior Center.
The one-stop shop will feature representatives from the Red Cross, United Way, and insurance experts to help victims navigate claims and access essential services.
While the Union City High School gym remains a primary distribution site for food and supplies, officials are now requesting that the public shift from physical donations to monetary contributions through the Branch County Community Foundation or United Way to better manage the ongoing long-term recovery efforts.
