BATTLE CREEK, MI (WTVB) – A regional food bank is bringing back its traveling food distribution program to Coldwater and Union City this spring.
South Michigan Food Bank’s Mobile Market program is designed to bring free groceries directly to people facing food insecurity.
Operating twice per month from April through October, Food Bank officials say the Mobile Market serves as a traveling food distribution designed to reduce transportation barriers and expand access to nutritious food. They say by bringing truckloads of groceries directly into communities, the program helps ensure individuals and families can access food closer to home.
The Mobile Markets will be April 27, May 18, June 22, July 27, August 24, September 28, and October 26 at Emmanuel Global Methodist Church in Union City, and the back parking lot of the
Coldwater Ponderosa restaurant from 12:30 p.m.-2:30 p.m. each day.
A variety of grocery items and meal kits are distributed at no cost, with offerings adjusted throughout the season based on availability and community need. The Food Bank says in 2025, 9,013 people received 273,870 pounds in food at 56 distributions.
South Michigan Food Bank is headquartered in Fort Custer Industrial Park and partners with over 300 agencies to serve Branch, Barry, Calhoun, Hillsdale, Jackson, Kalamazoo, Lenawee, and St. Joseph counties.
